All About Dolby Digital (AC3)

Dolby Digital (code-named AC3) is a compressed, lossy surround sound format that boomed with the rise in popularity of DVD in the late 1990s and early 2000s. It is also the standard audio format for HDTV programming. With one digital cable from a DVD player and ultimately other sources like satellite and digital cable boxes, home theater enthusiasts could get discrete surround sound for six or more channels. This means that they could hear unique sounds coming from each of their rear speakers, which created much more detailed, cinema-like surround sound effects at home.

Dolby Digital (AC3)

Dolby Digital was preceded by Dolby Pro Logic, a 4.0 format found on many VHS tapes.

With the advent of Blu-ray, Dolby released two new codecs for the new disc format...

Aug 28, 2014 06:16 pm / Posted by Diana Joan | Categories: Hot Topics

Many people have thought that Netflix, and other streaming services will bury Blu-ray high-definition disc format– and within a few years, hardly anyone will remember that Blu-ray ever existed.

However, as for me, I love streaming video-on-demand, and I use it all the time for casual movie watching and preschooler entertaining, but I would never give up my Blu-ray player. When it comes to serious movie watching through my home theater system, when I want not only the best A/V experience but the best movie-watching experience, Blu-ray is still the way to go…and here are a few reasons why.

Blu-ray vs Streaming, which is better

1. Blu-ray still has better video quality

Slowly but surely, streaming services are improving the quality of their video streams, with iTunes, Netflix, CinemaNow, and VUDU all offering video-on-demand tit...

How to get 3D Blu-ray onto your BenQ W1080ST projector for playback

Diana Joan

Aug 26, 2014 06:45 am / Posted by Diana Joan | Categories: Blu-ray

I’d consider myself a home entertainment enthusiast, as such I’m quite finicky when it comes to audio and video quality. I would happily drop out my LED TV and replace it with the BenQ W1080ST. The W1080ST delivered high quality and bright video, for as long as you were not shining a direct light at it.

And a few days before, I’ve purchased many 3D blu-ray movies, I wonder if my BenQ W1080ST projector directly play 3D blu-ray with 3D effect keeping? Is it necessary to hook up a Blu-ray player to it? I only have two options to hooking it up to a blu-ray player: S-video or that yellow video plug. No optical or DVI or HDMI plugs. I would really like to know before I go and spend a lot of money on a Blu-ray player.

DTS (Digital Theater Systems) and Dolby Digital (AC-3) are the two most famous audio codec used in professional cinema and home theater system to record and play back multi-channel high-definition audio.

dts audio

A file with .DTS extension is multi-channel audio file encoded in the Digital Theater Systems (DTS) format. I mean, there really should be a solution for this sort of thing. Here is a question from one of my friends.
