Open Hour Chameleon is a powerful Android media player with high quality aluminium casing design. So it will be a delightful experience to enjoy your high-quality movies on Panasonic TH-50AX800 TV with Open Hour Chameleon via NAS server in the living room. Suppose that you have tons of movies on DVD now, how to enable Panasonic TH-50AX800 to Play DVD via Chameleon on NAS?

In testing, I had somewhat of a “hit and miss” experience streaming video over the network from an ASUSTOR/Synology NAS and you may well need to experiment both with the apps you use on the Chameleon itself as well as the uPnP/DLNA server on your NAS or home server to achieve the best results. When I pointed to the app to MiniDLNA and Plex Media Server running on the NAS, video playback was smooth, with full DTS and Dolby Digital audio decoding.

Well, you may find that just copying the DVD content to Panasonic TH-50AX800 TV directly is a pain to try and play with a media streamer (Chameleon, PS3, WD TV, etc) on NAS. Then I am going to look at how we might be able to achieve this.

This is 4 basic step process:

1. Break the copy protection of the DVD disc

2. Rip the DVD rips to individual video files (like .mp4)

3. Stream output videos via Open Hour Chameleon on NAS

4. Sit back and relax and watch a DVD movie on Panasonic TH-50AX800 TV

To realize it, a DVD ripping program that can rip DVD to Panasonic TH-50AX800 TV format is needed. There are several software claims it can rip DVDs, but let’s stick with the easy-to use tool called Pavtube ByteCopy. It can extract and convert the contents out from DVD to Panasonic TH-50AX800 TV readable video files and almost other video types. Even forced subtitles can be kept when ripping DVD. It also allows you edit the video to produce a good-looking file by trimming, cropping, adjusting video effects, inserting subtitles, etc. If you are using a Mac, you can go to ByteCopy for Mac. Now download this tool and follow the instructions to rip DVD movies to stream and play on Panasonic TH-50AX800 TV with Open Hour Chameleon via NAS server.

1. Add DVD movies

Launch the top DVD ripping tool. Then click disc icon to select and import the DVD disc, DVD folder, DVD ISO you want to rip to this program. Loaded files can be previewed in the right viewing window and you can take snapshots of your favorite movie scenes.

2. Choose output format

Open Hour Chameleon can play 3D/4K videos or H.264 AVI, MKV, FLV, VOB/IFO, FLV and MP4. NAS supports storing almost all kinds of video formats. However, when linked to a device like Panasonic TH-50AX800 TV for playing, the video file should of the format accepted by Panasonic TV. So you are required to choose “Panasonic TV (*.mp4)” from “TVS”. To get 3D effect, select “MP4 Side-by-Side 3D Video (*.mp4)” from “3D”.

Here is a list of TV tested with 4K 60p settings which can work with Open Hour Chameleon so far:

– Samsung HU7000

– Panasonic TH-50AX800

– LG UB8500

– LG 49UB8800

– LG 55UB8800

When set to 4K60p (60Hz), make sure the TV HDMI port support RGB444/YUV444 with Deep Color turn on. For example, LG UB8500 4K60p (60Hz) is tested working with Open Hour Chameleon with Deep Color turn on in HDMI Port 3. HDMI Port 1 and 2 in LG UB8500 only support YUV420 for 60Hz which is not supported by RK3288.

Although Open Hour Chameleon supports H.265 codec, keep in mind that you can only compress and reduce a video file size or keep its original high quality, while upscaling DVD to 4K resolution for playing on Panasonic TH-50AX800 TV is not allowed since this will result in a lower quality output video.

Tip: With the right settings you can retain the quality of the original DVD while also saving space. Simply click Settings bar and you can tweak the video size, bitrate, frame rate, etc.

3. Start ripping DVD to Panasonic TH-50AX800 TV with Chameleon via NAS

Click “Convert” button to start converting DVD for Panasonic TH-50AX800 TV. After conversion completes, press “Open” to locate resulted files. Now, you can stream and play DVD contents on Panasonic TH-50AX800 TV through Chameleon via NAS without any troubles. Enjoy.

In addition to DVD, another nice thing about the software is that you can convert Blu-ray like VC1 Blu-ray files to Open Hour for streaming and even extract SRT subtitle from Blu-ray Disc to play on Open Hour Chameleon via Kodi.
