Overview

This detailed documentary covers the life and career of former United States Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfield. Rumsfield offers a glimpse into his life as a politician and in service to his country. He recounts his early days as a congressman in the 1960s. He offers people a rare glimpse into life in Washington, D.C. and what the life of a politician means to him. He explains his role as the Secretary of Defense, and how he aided in the planning of the invasion of Iraq in 2003 with President George W. Bush. This documentary offers viewers the chance to see a politician reflect on more than 40 years of public service in the political arena, and learn how he believes it affected the well being of the United States and its citizens.

Overview

A young doctor is sent to a remote village for his first post in the medical profession. It’s Russia in 1917 and the young doctor has just finished his medical school training. The village is far away from current medical standards. The doctor understands that the books he read, and the classes he took to become a doctor are not going to help him in this remote village. When a syphilis epidemic breaks out among the villagers, the young doctor learns how different the real world is compared to what he imagined while at school. While he struggles to hold onto his sense of purpose, which is to make discoveries in the medical community, he despairs when he sees the daily operations for the epidemic.

Overview

This deliciously terrifying thriller tracks a pair of best friends as they embark on an epic adventure: travel to the farthest reaches of the globe. Their dreams of wandering are cut short in Paris, when a chance encounter with a bewitching woman leaves one of them inexplicably stricken. Raw footage meant to return home as a keepsake now documents the mysterious infection and its gradual spread. A grim race ensues as the two friends struggle to discover the origin before one of them is consumed.

Overview

Helix begins when a group of scientists travels to a remote research facility in the Arctic to investigate what could be a potentially hazardous disease outbreak. However, when they arrive, the scientists find that there seems to be much more going on at the facility than anyone expected. The researchers involved with the facility are all secretive and uncooperative. The scientists begin to wonder what terrible thing it is that the researchers are actually working on. Some speculate that it’s an uncontrollable disease, or even human experimentation. Contact with the rest of the world is cut off and strange and frightening things begin happening. It soon becomes clear to the scientists that they have stepped into an extremely volatile and dangerous situation.

The Million Dollar Piano’ was filmed over multiple nights in 2013 at Elton John’s residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. The show has been running since September 2011, with the most recent leg spanning 16 shows between March 29 and April 26 2014. The concerts are the culmination of Elton John’s decades long partnership with Yamaha pianos. This film features classic Elton John tracks from across his extraordinary career performed either with his band, solo, or with percussionist Ray Cooper. The multimedia staging is phenomenal with vast screens behind the stage illustrating the songs and the piano itself acting as a screen for graphics and animations.

4. Good Sam

In the tradition of It’s a Wonderful Life… everyone in town agrees that there ought to be more good Samaritans like Sam Clayton (Gary Cooper, High Noon). Sam is a department store manager and a devoted family man. Unfortunately for Sam, no good deed goes unpunished. When Sam loans the family car to the neighbors … he gets sued when they have an accident. When he invites his brother-in-law for a visit – much to the dismay of Sam’s wife (Ann Sheridan, Kings Row) – the man stays around for six months. Sam is even willing to loan his own family savings to a young couple so they can start their own business and have a baby. Eventually, Sam learns why nice guys finish last when he himself needs someone to turn to! Legendary director, Leo McCarey (The Bells of St. Mary’s, An Affair to Remember) directed this dark comedy with gorgeous black-and-white cinematography by the great George Barnes (The File on Thelma Jordon, Rebecca).

5. Guns N’ Roses: Appetite for Democracy 3D – Live at the Hard Rock Casino, Las Vegas
