Since ffmpeg supports HEVC so Plex and Kodi support HEVC video transport and streaming. 4K Blu-ray is normally encoded with HEVC and a few part is encoded with VP9 so when you want to rip 4K Blu-ray to NAS for Plex streaming on 4K TV or Xbox One S, you can rip HEVC 4K Blu-ray to H.265 MP4 or H.265 MKV for Plex.
HEVC encoding is CPU-taking so when you rip 4K Blu-ray to Plex by H.265 codec, you should use a Blu-ray Ripper supporting NVIDIA CUDA hardware acceleration and a high-end computer greared with CUDA-enabled GPU. In addition, comparing to Blu-ray, 4K UHD Blu-ray is harder to decrypt cause it has more complex encryption. There are many Blu-ray Rippers on the market but few of them can rip 4K Blu-ray, especially rip 4K Blu-ray to HEVC MP4/MKV with GPU hardware acceleration.
Fortunately, the new release of Pavtube Studio of its Pavtube ByteCopy removed this upset. In the latest update, Pavtube ByteCopy version 188.8.131.52 can rip 4K HEVC Blu-ray to HEVC MP4 and HEVC MKV with up to 30x times ripping speed utilizing the most advanced hardware acceleration NVIDIA CUDA & AMD APP by H.264/H.265 codec, which can give users video transcoding speed than before.
Pavtube ByteCopy can decrypt 4K Blu-ray BD+, AACS, Region Codes, MKB V61, MKB V62 then convert 4K M2TS to HEVC MP4, HEVC MKV with up to 500% speed using GPU acceleration. In the test, when I am using Nvidia Titan X Pascal, I took an hour to rip The Revenant to H.265 MP4 by enabling GPU encode acceleration. It will cost less time if you rip 4K Blu-ray to H.264 MP4 and copy Blu-ray and DVD to H.265 MKV, H.265 MP4.
Apart from HEVC 4K Blu-ray, Pavtube ByteCopy also can rip 4K VP9 Blu-ray, MPEG2/AVC/VC-1 Blu-ray and mpeg 2 DVD to Plex supported formats. Read >> AVC vs. VC-1
Import 4K HEVC Blu-ray
Insert your 4K Blu-ray disc into your BD drive, run the Blu-ray Ripper and click “Load from disc” icon to load your Blu-ray movies. You can also import movies files from Blu-ray folder, Blu-ray ISO. At the bottom of the chapter list, you can choose your desired subtitles and audio tracks in "Subtitle" and "Audio". You also can rip 4K Blu-ray to Plex with forced subtitles.
Choose Plex Compatible HEVC Formats
Plex supports MKV, AVI, MOV, TS, MP4, etc. But when it comes to HEVC codec, we strongly recommend MP4 or MKV formats. You can click “Format” to open the drop-down window and choose H.265 HD MP4 video in “HD Video” catelog. You also can choose HD MKV from HD Video category and set video codes to x265 in “Settings” to choose to rip 4K Blu-ray to H.265 MKV. Meanwhile, you are allowed to adjust profile parameters like display resolution, bitrate, frame rate, audio sample rate to achieve the best video and audio playback on your device.
If you like, you can click “Settings” to change the video encoder, resolution, frame rate, etc. as you wish. Keep in mind the file size and video quality is based more on bitrate than resolution which means bitrate higher results in big file size, and lower visible quality loss, and vice versa.
Utilizing Nvidia GPU Hardware Acceleration In ByteCopy
Now, move your cursor to “Tools” button on the top of the main interface to choose “Options”. Then you can enable GPU Encode acceleration. You need to check if your graphic card supports CUDA acceleration from here. .
Start ripping 4k HEVC Blu-ray to Plex
Hit on the “Convert” button and 4k Blu-ray to H.265/HEVC video conversion begins. When the conversion is done, open output folder, find the ripped movie inoutput folder.
